K&N Panel Filter + Service

I got a new K and N panel filter for £15 which, compared to buying one new, was a bargain. It had hardly been used as well, the guy said he'd used it two months before getting an cold air feed and enclosed filter.

The filter is dead easy to fit, so it went straight in. It made a very slight but noticeable difference, picks up the revs a bit better, and it's very easy to clean and reuse, so would well recommend getting one.

It was also time to change the oil, I decided to put in some fairly good stuff - Mobile Super S 10w/40, and with it I put a new halfrauds oil filter on.

  1. hay hi I'm Stefano ..I've been watching your progress with your car ...i have got to say your one good detailer ..i like the way you keep it simple but unique that's why i thought you would be the best person to ask if changing the standard air in take to a cone (K&N ) air in take improves performance or improves anything at all???

  2. Hi Stefano,

An open cone (any brand) will reduce power/performance due to heat soak. Heat soak is where the open cone draws in hot air from around the engine. Hot air is less dense, so less air is present during combustion.

An open cone will make a noise increase though.

If you want performance increases, you either need to get a panel filter (same as me), or buy an enclosed air filter. Examples of enclosed air filters are BMC CDA, Pipercross viper, ITG Maxogen. With enclosed systems you will need to either use the standard air feed, or buy a cold air feed and a trumpet and mount it in the front grill.

    Hope this helps!
